Kristine's Anatomy

I have to be honest, I don't get much sleep these days. I've been back to work for a couple of weeks now. I go in a little later than I used to in order to catch some extra sleep in the morning, but early nonetheless. Kristine's mom is up early as well. She heads over to the center to sit with Kristine and help her through the day from 7:30 to around 5 or 6. She does get a break here and there when one of Kristine's friends stops by or she goes into physical therapy. I take the evening shift from around 6 to 11 or 12. I then come home, walk the dog, post on the blog if I have a minute and go to bed, lying awake until my mind calms down enough to fall asleep.

When I'm at the center Kristine and I talk about our days, while I message her legs upon request. We occasionally watch TV and on Thursday Kristine likes to watch Grey's Anatomy, a show about an overly dramatic Seattle hospital with incredibly unrealistic but I guess entertaining plot lines. I bring this up, firstly, because I'm amazed that anyone would ever want to watch a show about surgery after just having had major surgery themselves. Secondly, the plot lines in the past two weeks' episodes have hit especially close to home. Last week a 10 year old girl was transferred from one hospital to another due to an inoperable Leiomyosarcoma -- the same rare cancer that Kristine has (apparently Leiomyo- is now a hot TV drama cancer). This week a woman had a brain tumor that was causing paralysis and had to be operated on. If you ask me who needs TV medical drama when you have Kristine and her blog.

I'm going to try and get to sleep.

P.S. Thanks for all your great responses on the blog. They really keep us going.

  1. Wow -- I didn't know Kristine was a Grey's Anatomy fan too. So funny. I love that show but with the world series and election this Philles phan and political junkie has missed the past two episodes -- although my DVR is awaiting me. Hard to believe Leiomyosarcoma is featured. I hate to tell you Ryan but as amazing as you are I suspect it's McDreamy (my heartthrob) and/or McSteamy who keep her attention rather than the quest for more information on her apparent chic cancer.

  3. Hi Kristine and Ryan,

It's the little things in life that make us happy, or as Bob Marley would sing, "Lively up yourselves and...."
I admire all of you for your strength, determination and commitment!

    Hang in there!

  7. Hey Kristine & Ryan,

It's been so long since I've communicated - but both of you are never far from my thoughts.
The 'escape' story is a great one - it's this type of tough will that's so meaningful. You are two tough people! I am in awe of you both. Please keep it up...
Hope Connie is doing well - we miss our knitting buddy...but none of us have been in Saginaw much these days.
    Love to you all, Jane

  11. Hey there from Michigan! Glad to see another update on the blog as I was just thinking of you both and wondering how things are. Sorry I can't say much about Grey's Anatomy. I've missed the season this year due to a conflict with The Office and 30 Rock, my bedtime and a husband who thinks the show is too soap operay. (it's really the bedtime that stops me) Can't really print what he says when I turn on Desperate Housewives. Sending lots of love your way and extra hours of rest for Ryan who I can't say thank you enough for keeping us posted and taking such great care of our friend! Continue to "Kick Ass" at therapy Kristine! Always thinking of you!

  12. Hey Kristine. I am just checking in and hoping that things are still progressing little by little for you. I have been missing Grey's and need to get it together....I heard there are many other controversial issues going on with the show and some of the episodes have been packed with a little WOW factor! I am hoping that you received my e-mail last week about Halloween.....I hope you did and it gave you a laugh or two, that IKE looked a little bigger on my chest than I ever remember it from high school! Tomorrow is Thursday already and I am looking forward to Friday. I'll have a little cocktail for you and know that as usual, you are in my prayers. Keep the faith and hang tough! Love, Ann

  18. Hi Kristine. Just checking in to let you know that I am thinking of you always and praying for good things. I saw Heidi Chapman Friday and she sends her love..........she is praying for you too! I hope that you were feeling well enough to watch Grey's the other night. I actually caught the whole episode, which doesn't usually happen. I was out with some of the girls from school for a quick bite and few cocktails Sat. night and Gina, Shelly, Michele Schaller (Farrell)are all thinking of you and very concerned. Michele's husband is battling brain cancer so things have been very rough for them as you know better than any of us. Anyway, we just try to get her out when possible for a few minutes to recharge. Looking forward to an update and praying for progress....Love, Ann
