A Tough Homecoming

Kristine came home around noon on Saturday. It was a tough day for her. Her leg and arm were stiffer than normal causing her a great deal of discomfort. She was also very emotional throughout the day. All of this was brought about by the active day she had on Friday, the last day of in-patient rehab, coupled with the stress of managing her new surroundings.

Saturday night was difficult for both of us. Kristine's discomfort continued into the night. We had not had a chance to fill her prescription for sleeping medication, which she had become accustom to over the last month. Kristine woke up about every thirty minutes, and I with her, to change her position, go to the bathroom or stretch and move her stiff and cramped leg and arm muscles. By morning we were both hoping that the days ahead would be easier and that we could settle into a workable routine.

  1. Hang in there - figuring out the meds when you get home and getting settled has been one of the biggest challenges for mom as well but it will get BETTER!

  2. Hi Kristine. It sounds like the challenges just keep coming and that must be very frustrating. Thank goodness you have such a compassionate and caring man in your life. It is so thoughtful for Ryan to maintain your blog and greatly appreciated by all of us that love you. I hope that the two of you are getting a little settled in and able to get some real rest. All my love, Ann

  6. Hey,
Sorry I missed you in Phila last night. I hope you are able to laugh as you work out some of the challenges of being home. That has to be harder on some days than others, but your humor has been like a secret weapon through it all. Keep smiling, you beautiful, courageous vixen!
    Much love,
    Kira

  7. About a month ago, someone sent me an email about your blog. I had seen you at the reunion and was told about your cancer. All I can say is the minute you walked in with that red dress....it really made a strong statement about your spirit. Red stands for power, strength, and leadership. Keep on drawing on those qualities. Red is really your color.
